It ain’t over until the last batter swings, and they ain’t done swinging yet!

My site was nominated for The Blogitzer!

As most Suffolk University men's baseball fans may now know the Suffolk University Rams fell 7-1 to St. Joseph's of Maine Thursday night at Adams Field, in Quincy.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when St. Joseph's hit four, what I call, blooper bunts along with two additional hits, coupled with three Suffolk Rams errors resulted in St. Joe's fanning seven runs.

Steve Durant had an incredible outing on the mound for almost six innings before the Saint Joe's rally.

Anthony Iacopucci had an RBI single to bring in

Tim Corcoran, for the Rams' only scored run of the game.

The Rams seemed poised to make a comeback in the seventh and eighth inning, but wound up leaving four runners on base.

Suffolk University will be playing Saturday morning 04-26-08 at 10:00 am against Rivier College.

Sports mama will keep updating the web site as soon as new information is available. In the meantime check out the pictures from Thursday's game.

This is sports mama checking out till tomorrow!

 SUFFOLK BASEBALL
Second Round – 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships
Thursday, April 24, 2008
Adams Field, Quincy, Mass.

FINAL:  SAINT JOSEPH'S (MAINE) 7, SUFFOLK 1

QUINCY, Mass.--  Junior Andrew Keirstead (Westbrook, Maine) went the distance on the mound with a complete-game 140 pitch effort as fourth-seeded Saint Joseph's (Maine) notched a 7-1 victory over top-seeded Suffolk in second round play of the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Baseball Championships Thursday afternoon at Adams Field.

The visiting Monks (23-13) advance in the winner's bracket of the Great Northeast Championships and will take on the winner of Thursday night's other second round match-up between second-seeded Johnson & Wales and third-seeded Rivier on Saturday afternoon at Holman Stadium in Nashua, N.H. beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The host Rams (23-9) will square off with the loser of the Johnson & Wales-Rivier contest in an elimination round game on Saturday morning at Holman Stadium beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The game was scoreless until the sixth when Saint Joseph's strung together six hits and took advantage of three Suffolk errors to plate all seven of its runs, as freshman Ian Lee's (Hampden, Maine) sacrifice fly gave the Monks a 1-0 lead before a pair of miscues and a passed ball extended that advantage to 3-0.  Junior Wade Oliver's (Owls Head, Maine) two-run single gave the visitors' a 5-0 cushion, while an error and a fielder's choice allowed two more runs to cross and closed out the frame for Saint Joseph's.  The Rams answered back in the bottom of the inning when junior Anthony Iacopucci (Medford, Mass.) plated sophomore Tim Corcoran (Beverly, Mass.) with an RBI single, as Suffolk had threats in the seventh and eighth but left four runners on base over the final three innings.

Senior Luke Enman (Milan, N.H.) had three of Saint Joseph's 11 hits on the afternoon, while Oliver, senior Brian Schools (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Todd Keneborus (Hollis Center, Maine) each added two safeties for the Monks, as Keirstead threw 84 strikes in his complete-game effort for the visitors in improving to 5-1 on the season.  Corcoran collected two of Suffolk's nine hits in the setback, as senior Steve Durant (Malden, Mass.) didn't allow an earned run and struck out seven over 5 2/3 innings to fall to 5-3 on the hill for the Rams.

The double elimination portion of the 2008 Great Northeast Championships continues on both Saturday and Sunday at Holman Stadium, as complete pairings are available by logging-on to the conference's web site at www.thegnac.com.
